Technical Topic - Pronunciation

I put this together because the Penguin Audio people wanted to get the pronunciation right.  Or at least, get it the way the author wanted it, which is not quite the same thing.  It's very conscientious of them, isn't it?

This is part of what authors do, I guess, when they are tearing their hair out and not writing the JUSTINE manuscript because her voice just won't come to them.

So maybe you're interested in how it's all pronounced.
Or maybe you're not . . .  That's good too.

I've put the looong chart with the pronunciation below the fold

 Here's the detailed chart . . .

First of all Wow! I am always impressed at how much work and research and thought you put in to all your books. It truly is that hardest of tricks you pull off of "making it look easy." Well maybe not easy, but smooth and effortless. This chart is a good example of your thoroughness (love all the examples!) and just wanted to let you know your work is appreciated by geeks like me who will actually sit and click on the links to hear Marius from Switzerland pronounce "Villiers." (Is he in the running to do the audio book? He should be!)

I also wanted to take the opportunity to ask a shamelessly self serving question that does not relate directly to your chart. Is there any chance "Her Ladyship's Companion" will be reprinted? Or perhaps released in e-format? I confess I got the idea partly from the fact that Patricia Ryan (P.B. Ryan) has released her now out of print Nell Sweeney books on Goodreads. I was also thinking that a large number of people would like to read H.L.C. and would rather pay you a royalty than a second hand bookseller $200.00 for the privilege. Is this in the realm of possibility?

    Thanks so much as always,
    Christine

  2. Hi Christine --

Marius from Switzerland . . . I hope he's a cool guy. He has such a nice voice.

You know, these pronunciation sites are created by volunteers. Yeah!! for them, says I.

    As to 'Her Ladyship's Companion'.

Y'know . . . HLC is an honest effort. It was the best book I could write at the time, but it's a small, slight work.
    Still, maybe I should look into e-pub . . . *g*
