A Basketful of RITA Recommendations

Every year RWA honors outstanding Romance books. These are some of the best of 2009  Here.

I don't get to do as much reading as I'd like, so I haven't read most of the RITA winners and finalists.
But I've read and loved these here below.
I recommend them.
They are wonderful books.

  1. I bought WHAT HAPPENS IN LONDON a couple days ago and started it tonight. LOVING it so far.

And, shoot! I've read SCANDAL but my local B&N's never have the first book in your paranormal series, which I've been dying to read. Guess I need to order on-line!

  2. Hi Sandy,

I was lucky enough to MEET Carolyn Jewel at the 2009 RWA in Washington. I told her how much I enjoyed SCANDAL and did a small and genteel fangirl squee in her direction. A very fine writer.

Now, you're coming in from the Urban Fantasy side, aren't you? I don't have any of the paranormals recommended because I have no time and cannot read just about anything at all but really dull stuff about France in 1802.
So, my recs are pretty much in the straight historical lineup.

Have you read Deanna Raybourn's SILENT ON THE MOOR? It's an atomospheric historical detective story. You might find it interesting.

The Brick and Mortars really need to make it easier to order author's backlists.

When you finally fight your way to the information desk
    and finally catch somebody's attention
and they snigger . . . "You expect us to have six-week-old books ON THE SHELF !!? "

Anyhow, when they finally stop giggling,
they should push a few buttons on the computer and say --

-- "I can download that title right this minute on your e-device,
-- or I can have it delivered to your house in three days, no shipping charge and you get 15% off.
-- And let me take you over to the shelf and show you the book we do have that's linked as similar to that author."

    That's what they SHOULD do.

  3. Joanna, I'd been saving up and not buying ROSE because I was sure you'd be at RWA and I could get my first signed copy. Wah! I searched and searched for your name plate at the Lit Signing, convinced they'd hidden you somewhere. Finally, I asked someone, and they said you'd not come. Wah! Wah!

  4. Hi Keira --

Well shoot. I have lots of regrets about not being able to get to National, and there's one more.

I AM planning to get to New York National. If you're there -- I hope you will be -- and bring a copy of FORBIDDEN I will somehow track you down and sign it for you.

Or use the link to the right-hand side to mail me your snail address and I will send you a signed bookplate.

The whole bookplate idea is very strange to me, but I have some lovely ones. I'll send them to pretty much anyone who asks.

  5. Hi Sandy --

I had not mentioned that What Happens In London was the 2009 American Library Association RUSA genre pick. Let me do that now.
