Well ... I'm one-third of the way through something.
But I'm one-third of the way through a very first rough draft. This is the bare bones I've got here. Much of this writing will be chucked out. All of it will be changed.
I feel my people squirming and transforming in my hands even as I type.
We re-imagine our characters. Already, Maggie is a different person than she was in Chapter One. She's older, wiser ... angrier ...
Maybe the action won't change much, but Maggie's motives just get ore and more complex. (I keep hearing 'Ogres have laaayers.')
I really wonder what Maggie will be like when I finish this draft.
Then, of course, I have to go back and create a second draft of MAGGIE with this new Maggie inside it.
In more immediate news ... the 'm' key on my machine has stopped working. I've used Keytweak to switch 'm' to my right-hand 'alt' key, but it's not really a long-term solution.
I couldn't work at all yesterday, what with being annoyed and thrown off-stride by not having an 'm'. I am just so picky about having ALL the letters to work with.
"Baggie" That would certainly be unique. :D Isn't it annoying that our characters don't pop onto the page in a three dimensional, human, and honest way? I think its very rude of them to squirm. They should do as they're told..... Somewhere fictional characters are laughing. :D

Since you have a work in progress and an avid fan base I was wondering if you'd thought about joining the Unleash Your Story for Cystic Fibrosis thing.
hey but you're past 33.3 which means one third done! Rock on Jo.

Picky? You mean you don't want to rename your heroine Baggie?

Hi Moth --
ReplyDeleteI saw that. But I think they're looking for considerably 'bigger names' than mine.
You don't think you could bestir your fanbase to sponser you?
ReplyDeleteI'm both kinda stunned and fairly skeptical at the whole 'fanbase' concept. I don't ... *cough* ... think I actually have a fanbase.
ReplyDeleteEven my cat is fairly blase about my writing.
"Here," says she, sitting down from qwer to kl;' "That's enough of that. Feed me."
