and in Library Journal news ...

Blowing my own horn a bit,
Neal Wyatt here offers some summer reading in the Library Journal, 8/18/2008

You see me in illustrious company.

The Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne (Berkley)
The Pretender by Celeste Bradley (St. Martin’s)
Daughter of the Game by Tracy Grant (Morrow)
All the Queen's Men by Linda Howard (Pocket)
The Seduction of the Crimson Rose by Lauren Willig (Dutton )

I post this, not just for the satisfying blare of trumpets ... but to offer the other books to you. If you like Spymaster's Lady, you're likely to enjoy the others as well.
I'd be delighted to know what you think.

  1. I haven't read any of the others, but Celeste Bradley's Liar's Club series and the one following with the Royal Four were really good. More fun with spies, good stuff.

  4. I read Daughter of the Game. It was recommended to me as a book I'd learn from, and I did. It's beautifully written.

DotG is grittier than what I'm trying to do. There's Great Intensity between H&H. Very fraught. I need more of that.

I was reminded somewhat of Anne Perry in terms of atmospherics.

I'm looking forward to reading something else of hers, when I can get my hands on it.

I have that set of books lined up, mentally in the 'To Be Acquired' file. I'll read 'em all when I have a chance.

If I were suggesting spy-themed books, I'd add Kim and Dennis Wheatley's work and Talbot Mundy and Scarlet Pimpernel. That's what comes to mind just immediately.
