Cleaning out the Blog again

I went back again and swept out old messages and made the blog tidy.

The blog has been my writing progress ... sometimes day-to-day writing progress ... on two manuscripts. Is there anything more self-involved and narcissistic than a writer talking to herself about the minutia of writing? This can't be interesting for anyone.

So I've gone through and deleted about 100 post, all of them full of fascinating stuff like me agonizing over how to increase narrative drive in Chapter Seven. I don't say that what is left is all that enthralling, but the stuff I've pulled is considerably duller.

Some of the messages I pulled had comments attached. Sorry to delete those comments.

Love the excerpt. Lady spies aren't my thing, but witty dialog is; so the excerpt sold me on this book. I be looking for it in January.

  2. Hi Mary K --

Thank you so much. I hope the dialog is witty. I won't say this is exactly a comedy of manners ... but it has a bit of the flavor of one.

    I hope.

  3. What an entertaining snippet. I can't wait to read the whole thing. I feel as if I've been watching this evolve for years now. [g]

And speaking of evolving--when did Anneke become Annique?

  4. Hi Beth --

Excellent Editor didn't like the heroine name. I think she felt -- and she was right -- that Anneka sounded both modern and non-French.

    (I knew this.)

Sometimes we just have to work with one character name and change it at the end to another one.

  5. I just read about your upcoming book at Dear Author, and oooh -- the excerpt looks really promising (as does the tag line)! Can't wait to read it. Any chance we might get a slightly longer excerpt to tide us over till publication?

In the meantime, I'm going to trawl back through your previous entries for clues! :)

  6. Hi Meredith --

As soon as I crawl out from under this huge pile of rewrites on My Lord and Spymaster ...
    (sigh)
I'll get back to 'Dear Author' with an excerpt.

    Haven't decided quite what yet.
