  1. Ooooh, December! That's not too far away! *joy*

Did you decide on a title yet?

And, I have to ask, what's wrong with Anneka as a name for the protagonist? *curious*

  2. December? Now I've got something for my Christmas list... *g*

Did they "suggest" a title and/or name, or just tell you to change it? Any ideas?

    Still, very exciting!!!

  3. Re title. I'm playing with 'The Spymaster's Lady' right now. But it could end up anywhere.

The consensus is that the name 'Anneka' doesn't sound French enough. I need a name that's more French, but not so French as to be off-putting.

I have, let's be frank about this, no clue.

  4. Hm, it's true that Anneka doesn't sound very French. It's a pet form of Anna, isn't it? (I'm basing this assumption on the Swedish name Annika *g*). How about a French version of Anna? I googled up these options:

    Anais
    Anelle
    Anne
    Annette
    Anouk
    Nanette
    Ninette
    Nini

(Anouk doesn't sound very French to me, but what do I know? I kinda like Anais.)

Good luck with the name search, in any case!

  5. Anouk does sound rather as if she should be surrounded by ice-floes and seal blubber, doesn't it?

I am hoping something will come to me in the night.
    (sigh)
I've been mentally trying different names in different slots and trying to pick a name that feels right. Not much luck.

    I'd like a 'K' or hard 'G' or 'T' sound.

  6. Jo, my naming books had little to offer of French "A" names with a hard or semi-hard sound:

    Allegra
    Ambra
    or Angelique [g]

I can hardly wait until December. I know what's going on _my_ Christmas list.

  7. I am just about tearing my hair out on this one.

I knew I'd need a new title a couple of weeks ago.
Haven't found a title yet, really.

I only found out Two Days Ago I needed a new heroine name.
So I haven't found a heroine name yet,
    more,
if you see what I mean.

    Not Gabrielle. Not Nichole.
    Not Annette.

That's three down. Only another 876,439 French names to go.

Jo, Your signature line in the Writers Forum led me here. I've very much enjoyed your writing, and your generous and wise writing advice there. (I'm a long-time lurker who loves to read).

I think Anneka is a great name because it is feminine yet not wimpy.

Here are a couple names from 2000names.com to provoke your imagination!

{please excuse lack of accent marks)
    K sound:
    Dominique
    Veronique

    T sound:
    Nicolette

    A beginning sound:
    Agnes (Avec accent egu)
[Swap to/from English would be easy, plus it sounds good in French and looks no-nonsense in English!]
    Alienor (means foreign, other!)
    Arianna

    Meanings with added-value:
    Elodie (foreign wealth)
    Penelope(Weaver of cunning)

I'm looking forward to buying your books no matter what you name them!

  11. Dominique ... Clarice ... hhmmmm ...

I wish I were better at this name stuff.
    How do people DO this?

    JoB
who managed it once and figures she shouldn't have to do it twice ...

  12. Well, this name suggesting thing is kind of fun. For those of us who don't have to do the actual choosing, of course. *g* It must be difficult to rename a main character. After all, you "know" them by a certain name.

    Hard sounds... How about

    Benedicte
    Clarisse
    Corinne
    Frederique
    Gaelle
    Gaetane
    Hyacinthe
    Magali
    Marguerite
    Monique
