In my online RWA chapter we're discussing horror stories.
Not the kind appropriate to Halloween. The publishing kind.
Everybody's got a manuscript that sat at a publisher for a year. Or six months. Or two years. Generally after being entertained hospitably for that length of time the poor ms gets bounced out the door with a form letter 'not right for our list'. Even a literary agent doesn't speed the process much.
They say editorial departments are being squeezed to the max to maintain profit margins. Editors who, ten years ago, had impossible jobs and inadequate assistance look back on those days with nostalgia. They say the Romance market is shrinking.
They say there are fewer houses ....
I dunnoh.
How do you stay sane?
You write.
