Animals in the House

I delight in animals . . . all kinds -- from wild tigers to tame kitty cats.  The feistier they are, the better I like them.  I try to put at least one in each of my books.

SPYMASTER'S LADY introduces us to Tiny, the huge black dog that guards the house.

Kedger from MLAS is my absolute favorite. I loved how integral to the plot he was and how Sebastian thinks he is Jess's cat when she groggily first mentions him. I also liked how Sebastian was thinking how he liked cats! Any hero who likes cats is A-OK with me. Kedger was so well written I always wondered if you have/had a ferret? I'm a cat person myself but ferrets have a wonderful mix of naughty and cute that I love. Was there a backstory you had in mind of how Jess acquired him? (Oh and I love that you said Adrian has a cat we haven't met yet.)

  3. Dear Anon -

I am so very sorry to have to remove the comment. The company looks like a wonderful one and their contribution to the SPCA shows they have great heart.

But I can't leave commercial products of ANY kind in the comment trail. Not even such worthy companies. I have to remove all such messages, or it wouldn't be fair.

I would be delighted to post the URL of that animal shelter though, or of the animal shelter you support.

  4. Hi Christine,

I haven't owned a ferret myself. I used to 'ferret sit' for a friend, though.

They're a lot like cats, but more stubborn.
Yes. Even more stubborn than a Siamese.

Do you know . . . I have never once thought about or pictured how Jess got hold of him. It would have been as a kit, certainly. By 1811, Kedger was a Grand Old Man of a ferret.

I will have to think about this, when I'm not in the midst of JUSTINE.
If I am ever out of the midst of JUSTINE again.

  5. Hi Jo! I won TFR from the RomCon blog you did. Yay! Just wanted to say thank you and that I'm so excited to read it.

I loved Doyle and Maggie in The Spymaster's Lady, and now I look forward to meeting Dulce and Decorum.

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend, and are enjoying working on JUSTINE.

    Dear Joanna,

My apologies. Didn't even think about that.

  7. Hi Katrina --

I have the book packed and ready to go. Mailing it will have to wait till I drive into town, which I do about twice a week. So it should soon be winging its way to you.

Congratulations on winning. Hope you enjoy it.

  8. Hi Anon --

Nothing to worry about. In a general way, I pull posts for having a commercial product recommended. I feel as though I have to be consistent. Sort of -- 'Delete them all and let Google sort them out.'
