Hi Jo,

Thanks for posting the syllabus and reading list here. Lauren and I are having an amazing time teaching this course—the student discussions are wonderful!

I know we're going to get LOTS of comment about the reading lists. We know we've left off many great books, but we did it rather quickly and consider it a work in progress. Everyone should feel free to give us suggestions. Just visit my website and send me an e-mail.

Best,
Cara Elliott

  3. Wow, thanks so much to Lauren Willig and Andrea DaRif for sharing the syllabus and reading list. And Jo, thanks for posting it here. As someone who read Woodiwiss and others writing in that genre in the 1970s and then only began reading romances again about two years ago, I can see I have a lot of catching up to do.

The syllabus is so wonderful as it is that I don't really have any suggestions. I did just wonder about the influence of Byron's dark, brooding heroes (not to mention his own exploits) on the novels that came after him.

Great syllabus...SOOO wish I could be there to hear the discussions! The supplemental reading list is wonderful, too--great to see the various trajectories laid out like that. Thanks for sharing!
